PAN-FSP is the only known patented technology in the world that enables the deposition of single/multi-layer nanocoatings onto mobile support particles. The advantages are several, most notably significant reduction in cost due to the significantly reduced usage of the precious nanocoating ingredients.

It is well known that many catalysts are used in different branches of industry for controlling/enhancing reactions. Quite often, the catalysts are made of high-cost materials such as Pt, Pd, Co (and others). Every manufacturer has deeply guarded secrets as to how they make their catalysts.

It is also a well-known that sooner or later, “poisoning” on the surface of the catalysts occurs, making them ineffective for further use. Analysis has shown that around 80% of the bulk of the catalyst is still good but not accessible due to the “poisoned” surface.

If instead of using a catalyst that is made of 100% precious compound, a low-cost and inert core material is used (such as refractory alumina, silica, zirconia or others), which is then coated with a nanostructured functional layer of the precious compound (ie, the “egg-shell” concept), the following advantages can be obtained:

  • nanostructured surface layer with enhanced surface, which leads to greater reactivity (depending on the average size of the support particles and the average grain size and thickness of the functional layer, the surface area can be increased realistically between 10 and 1,000 times and theoretically up to 10,000 times)
  • lower-cost products, as only 1-3% of the active ingredient would be deposited as the surface layer
  • controlled reaction making the whole process much simpler and more controllable.
